Nostradamvs
In 1555, Michel de Nostredame, a French apothecary and seer, published a book of prophecies that would become world-famous. The book, Les Propheties, is a collection of 942 poetic quatrains, written in rhymed verse, in which Nostredame purportedly predicted future events.
Nostradamus' prophecies have been studied and analyzed by many people over the years, and have been the source of much speculation and debate. Some believe that they are a collection of cleverly-worded predictions that could apply to any number of events; others believe that they contain specific, accurate prophecies of the future.
Nostradamus himself claimed that his prophecies were not meant to be interpreted literally, but rather as symbols that could be interpreted in various ways. He also claimed that only a small number of people would be able to understand his prophecies.
Despite the controversy surrounding them, the prophecies of Nostradamus have continued to fascinate people for centuries. Here are a few of the most famous ones,
"The blood of the just will be wanted to water the tree of liberty.".
This quatrain is often quoted in reference to the French Revolution, which took place shortly after Nostradamus wrote it.
"From the enslaved people, songs, cries and tears will arise, to free the land of the tyrant.".
"The great mountain will be thrown into the sea.".
This quatrain is often quoted in reference to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, which buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
"The Comet by night will announce the King's death.".
This quatrain is often quoted in reference to the death of King Louis XVI of France, which Nostradamus allegedly predicted.
"The Moon will turn red like blood.".
This quatrain is often quoted in reference to the lunar eclipse of July 16, 1969, which coincided with the Apollo 11 moon landing.
